SAVIOR OF TREES

Introduced technology of shifting big trees in India and saved millions of trees…

He was highly disturbed to see how thousands of trees were cut down in 2003-2004 when the construction industry was in a boom. In cities, old buildings were demolished paving way for multi-storied complexes. Lots of trees were cut down in the process. He used to ask builders to excavate medium-size trees and re-plant them, but they were unwilling. He would bring some of those unfortunate trees to his village property at Samukpota. He used to be successful in saving just a few trees with his personal efforts, but he knew this is not the solution. Saving a few trees is like a drop in the ocean, something at a big scale needs to be done.

He wanted to learn the proper methodology of excavating big trees and palms and to re-establish them to a different location. He started his exploration and observed that in the USA and other developed countries they use tree removal machines and this expensive technology would not suit India. He found that in Thailand Mr. Kampon Tansacha, owner of Nong Nooch Tropical Garden is excavating thousands of grown-up trees and palms without the help of big equipment. Dinesh approached him and Kampon was kind enough to impart training not only on excavation but also on packing and storing them, their transportation, replantation at new location and care after replantation.

Dinesh experimented at his village and found that the technology is successful. He then demonstrated this technology to nurserymen in South 24 Parganas. He made videos giving training and distributed free all over India and inspired people to excavate trees instead of chopping them off. His efforts brought results and now millions of trees are saved all over the country.
